Choice Hotels International has opened its 600th extended-stay hotel, the Everhome Suites Denver Airport, and the numbers behind the milestone matter more than the ribbon-cutting. The company reports 12 consecutive quarters of double-digit rooms growth in the segment, 13 percent net room growth year-over-year in the second quarter of 2026, and nearly 30,000 extended-stay rooms still in its development pipeline. For anyone who travels for a living, or arrives the night before a charter, that growth is aimed squarely at you.

The new property sits less than 10 miles from Denver International Airport, in a market the company says is supported by recurring demand from healthcare, logistics, construction and infrastructure activity. It offers studio and one-bedroom suites with full kitchens and flexible living areas, the standard kit of a purpose-built extended-stay brand. Nearby diversions include the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, the Denver Zoo and the Green Valley Ranch Golf Club. Why does a hotel-chain milestone appear in a charter publication? Because extended stay is the quiet infrastructure behind a lot of travel. Crews on rotation, contractors on project work, families mid-relocation and travellers positioning for an early departure all use this segment. Choice's own framing of the demand is broad: temporary work assignments, infrastructure projects, relocations and healthcare-related stays, situations that need lodging longer than a conventional hotel visit. If you have ever needed a kitchen and a washing machine the night before joining a boat, you know the category. We covered a connected angle in Ten questions to ask before signing a charter contract.

What the numbers say

According to citybiz, the broader Choice system spans more than 7,500 hotels and over 650,000 rooms across 51 countries and territories, with 22 brands. The extended-stay slice is where the growth is concentrated. The company describes itself as the largest franchised multi-brand portfolio in the economy and midscale extended-stay market, a claim that traces to more than 30 years in the segment, per Pluang.

The pipeline figure is the one to watch. Nearly 30,000 additional extended-stay rooms in development means the 600-property mark is a stage, not a ceiling. The company is particularly focused on growing Everhome Suites, its new-construction midscale brand, as it builds presence in purpose-built midscale extended stay.

Four brands, four different guests

Choice's extended-stay portfolio runs four distinct brands: Everhome Suites, MainStay Suites, Suburban Studios and WoodSpring Suites. Each targets a different development strategy and customer profile. Everhome Suites is positioned as the elevated, purpose-built midscale option, with full kitchens, larger storage areas, movable workspaces, 24-hour fitness centres, guest laundry, Wi-Fi and self-service marketplaces stocked with grocery and meal options. WoodSpring Suites, MainStay Suites and Suburban Studios carry different positioning and development models beneath the same flag.

That multi-brand structure is the strategy: let franchisees chase different price points and guest types within one platform, using the company's distribution, operating support and development infrastructure. Micah Linton, chief executive of Rimrock Companies, which owns the Denver Airport hotel, called Everhome Suites "a natural complement to our WoodSpring Suites portfolio, giving us an elevated purpose-built extended stay product that serves a different guest in high-demand markets." Rimrock's property is its second Everhome Suites to open, with several more in its pipeline.

Why the segment keeps growing

Extended stay also operates differently from a traditional transient hotel, which is why the company argues specialised operating expertise and purpose-built design matter to the investment model. Matt McElhare, Choice's vice president and extended-stay segment lead, put the company's case plainly: "This category demands a deep understanding of a unique guest and disciplined operations." He added that the company's scale allows continued investment in capabilities that support franchisee performance.

For the traveller, the practical read is simple. More purpose-built rooms with kitchens and laundry are coming online near airports, employment centres and project sites. If your travel pattern involves long stays or awkward overnight positioning, the segment's growth gives you more options at the economy and midscale end, which is where most of this expansion is happening.

What comes next

The company frames the 600-property milestone as "another stage in Choice Hotels' expansion strategy rather than an endpoint." With nearly 30,000 rooms in development and Everhome Suites as the growth brand, expect more openings in markets with the demand generators the segment relies on: hospitals, warehouses, construction and major employment centres. Denver, with its airport and its mix of all four, fits the template.
